I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today

No rain has to be one of my favorite songs of all times.

***

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain

I like watchin' the puddles gather rain

And all I can do is just pour some tea for two

and speak my point of view

But it's not sane, It's not sane

I just want some one to say to me

I'll always be there when you wake

Ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today

So stay with me and I'll have it made

And I don't understand why I sleep all day

And I start to complain that there's no rain

And all I can do is read a book to stay awake

And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

escape......escape......escape......

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain

ya don't like my point of view

ya think I'm insane

Its not sane......it's not sane

It is 22:07. I´m still on the newspaper. I´m starving. And I´m ok.
I realized today that if I call a person, they always think something is wrong, or I need something, or the sky may be falling. I don´t need anything. I´m ok. I just wanted to make sure you were ok. I´m pretty sure I´m the worst friend in the world, that doesnt mean I do not think of you probably several times a day. Not just because I never call. I have others ways to call. I´m always there, and the few for who I´m always there, know it. I´m always there, but I´m also in the moon. And do not know very well the earthy communication standard human methods.

Who wants to be an Internet Chief Evangelist?

Oh well, Google has already hired... Vinton Cerf. No less...

140 mins +

The brotherhood of war.

I left reviews to Mr. Karreau... All I´ll say is that it is bloody, it reminded me of Saving Private Ryan, Medal of Honor and just how stupid war is.

Not that I needed any of those.

I hate it when the drama music is too obviously manipulative. Like people, now is when you´re suposed to feel sorry for them. If you´re gonna cry, now is the f´n time... And in this filme, it is. Oh well... I suppose it has its strenghts, only it was late and I was terribly tired.

War is terrible. I really didnt needed to watch another war film.

Like if the news werent enough...

Anyway.

Crazy people...

But... It is indeed awesome. I watched House of Flying Daggers, and played Ridge Racer on it.
I fell in love. I haven´t ,though, used the WiFi browsing capabilities with the 2.0 firmware, but, I still want it. Heh. $250 down...

Weird Days (cellphone-o-less)

A ver... ¿estoy tomando drogas? Algo ligero. Y a ver, qué me podría dormir...

Worldwide Naked News (+ kazaa)

Meh.

¿Qué no?

sh*t! The online edition. But girl, you can always download the PDF´s. Besides, who is the mean teacher who forces you to read such a horrible thing every monday.

Now I feel bad.

Fake?

(men, I miss my APEX!) And just to digg a little bit more (I am a pain in the ASC..II), did you guys saw how much will it cost to Sony the Blu-Ray on the PS3? I, for one, am betting on the Xbox 360 for my future winter lonely nights of dork entertainment.

Birthday Girl

Nah. I prefer chocolate cake. But I did liked my pink plastic phone to the right. I was three? Four? Anyway. I´m officialy 30 now. Still deep down (actually, not so deep down haha) I still am this little girl. In many ways, I have preserved the spirit. That has to count, right?

BTW I was really testing the cake mom made for me. I gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars. ;*)

Thank you for the best whishes to whoever read this. C´mon, I know you do. (You better do!!!)

I would like to think the best is to come yet. ;*) Here is to that. If not, I´ll still celebrate wth a bottle of vodka. I just hope I dont end up drunk singing old mexican songs.

Well. That´s it. They are playing "Las mañanitas " now... Stop it.

Gonna make me cry, goddamit.

:P

Forecast (Rain. No matter what)

Well, first of all, some background: Tomorrow is my birthday. Normally, that´s enough to put me on a bad, cranky mood. Now. I seem to have a hormonal revolution. That is, on top of the normal chronic depresion, insomnia, mental disorders and the like. I know. Sh*t.

The thing is I dreamed I was killing myself. Not really killing. I was more like, opening my entrains with a knife. I suposse I wanted to put out my organs, like if they were lego or a puzzle, and then put them back and sewing my belly with a needle.... BUT... I didn´t had any entrains. I had... cherries. I know. Blood and cherries. Also, plums. Yeah. Plums. Bloody ones. I kept putting them out, and it seemed to be a tree. I mean, I wasn´t. It was like a vision of branches and everything. Even flowers and blossoming. But wasnt it strange that the fruits were inside????

Anyway. This day is a rollercoast so far. I have been angry, sad, and I have cried before 2:00 pm. That cannot be good. Wasn´t I supposed to get some joy (excuse me, I meant, "exaltation episodes") too? SOOOO? Where are them?!

F´n head chemicals of hell.

Solve et coagule.

Huxley, Hesse and The Cybernetic Society.

Fantastic essay.

Vintage Mexico

There is something about this ads/posters that I find fascinating.

I remember when I was like ... maybe 9? We used to go to a ranch, property of an uncle, and there was this little house there -where the people who took care of the ranch lived... really simple people-, it was so old. And you could still see adds like these. And oooold calendars. Actually, in some stores on the road to the little town where my parents live, it is possible to see this "vintage" adds, specially of cigarettes and drinks (coke etc)...

whew. I can almost smell the places...

People will think you´re ordering books!

New subcategory on Amazon.

No it´s not a joke! :P

Réquiem for a PowerShot [RIP]

Ahora sí se murió mi cámara digital.

>:*(

11. Not because of caffeine. Just can't stop thinking about coffee.
10. Converting MP3 collection to OGG taking longer than you thought.
9. Dorito crumbs on sheets cause unbearable itching.
8. Borg costume needed redesigning because it just wasn't realistic enough.
7. Had to keep checking the torrent to make sure it was still downloading.
6. Too scared to sleep after watching "Hackers" and knowing they can make more movies like it.
5. MMORPG withdrawal causing uncontrolable shaking.
4. Removed your bed to make room for the server rack.
3. Years of living underground have made your eyelids translucent.
2. Watched special edition of Star Wars and still pissed off over Greedo shooting first.
1. Had to sell bed to buy new graphics card.

Pentagrama (crepuscular)

(en serio, it sucks, and it gets worst, please stop now).

No me quejo.

No me contesten.

12 years old

I was going to post about the 12 year old guy who killed himself in his room because he was afroid of the punishment his parents would give him after he crashed the car.

But I thought, the hell with it.

There is no way to think about this in an euphemistic way. It makes me angry. It rushes blood to my head. And, at the same time, I want to push it away of my mind. I want to get rid of it. I know, but I dont want to.

It is almost like I can´t deal with it, with these, things. o.o

Why do they fucking index that into the technology news?

I know. Is weird. It is like the world hurts me. I can´t stand it. I already know all of that is happening. And it hurts everyday. To read about it, it is like adding more sand to my grave already too filled.

what can I do about it. what can anybody do.

The concept is interesting. Take a look here.

Vía if:book, who has an excellent post on OCW, btw.

Done updating

From now on, I´ll be the one to yell at if that site is not updated (self assignment, as I´m tired to hear people complaining). One thing that I mostly hate (update, not the complaining, that is actually beyond hate... hate is not enough word to describe it), but anyway.

¿On what basis should I update it, I ask? Twice a day? As of I have the information? (too freaky) Besides, the system is sooo slow... What would be a good framework to do this, really? Update, say, at 8 am and then at 3 pm? Any suggestions? No? WELL it is not like I am going to do it as you say anyway...

Talking about ADD, I´m now into Wikimania. I think wikis are great. Have you guys read the Wikiquote site? No? Well here is a good place to start.

So... I´m Talya, and I´m a stinking coffee addict. It has been only a couple of days since I quitted, and my head is absolutely killing me, like never before, and trust me, it has been really HARD before.

My back neck is killing me, the tension is built in my muscles and I feel like I´m going to explode. I´m super thirsty and I can´t sleep at all. This is really weird. My mouth is dry...

Plus, I´m drowsy all the time, and unable to concentrate. See I pass the coffee machine now, and stop only to fill my arrowhead bottle with more water. eww. water. so... my life sucks, and I can´t have coffee anymore.

Sh*t.

God Bless the IRC

Mark Haddon's bitterly funny debut novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, is a murder mystery of sorts--one told by an autistic version of Adrian Mole. Fifteen-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone is mathematically gifted and socially hopeless, raised in a working-class home by parents who can barely cope with their child's quirks. He takes everything that he sees (or is told) at face value, and is unable to sort out the strange behavior of his elders and peers.

I never thought I´d say this, but...

I finally DL "The curious incident of the dog at midnight" at Undernet #bookz. It is sweet. I have the rar now.

Of course I wish I had the papercopy instead, but, I haven´t seen it here have you??????

Fillerbunny (genetically engineered)

Aw. Can you believe this lovely little thing?

Fillerbunny is a small, pink cartoon rabbit. You know the kind with giant eyes, huge buck teeth, and head that is bigger than its body. His entire purpose in life is to be cute and entertain the reader with his exploits. Unlike Jhonen's other page filler Happy Noodle Boy, Fillerbunny tries to make the reader smile in between convulsions from the numerous injections he receives, and the occasional begging to have someone kill him.

Goddamit!

A Rubik's Cube can have (8! × 38−1) × (12! × 212−1)/2 = 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 different positions (~4.3 × 1019), about 43 quintillion, but it is advertised only as having "billions" of positions, due to the general incomprehensibility of that number. Despite the vast number of positions, all cubes can be solved in 29 moves or fewer.

Ok. I can´t f*cking solve it. I´m way getting into the obsession phase...

The little black box...

¿What will it be, the little thing next to the big screen from where the kids of 2008? 2010? 2015? can control everything -movies music data- on the living room?

Will it be ubicuous?
Will it be a monopoly?
Will it came from the computer industry, or the CE, or the cable companies?
Will it be cool? It has to.

Will it let me burn Plan 9 into a DVD no matter the format it is in on the hard drive?

Have I said already how much I hate ants?????

August 02, 2005

Is it true?

"The best thing for being sad... is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds.

"There is only one thing for it then--to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting..."

-T.H. White, The Once and Future King

*BTW. I have been reading and reading science blogs all night (don´t ask) and happen to notice that I found not a single one in spanish, at least not in the subject I was following the thread of on blogsnow, wich is the new stupid "idea" of Bu$h to teach ID in schools. Usually, when I follow threads on any tech story, I find at least three or four blogs on spanish, but none this time. Too bad, I guess.

Then I realized I was writing this in english. And switched.

ENTONCES...

The 16 mm shrine (loserdom!)

OMG. ¿The next Filthy Critic?

Ash Karreau hate films, and soon you will too.

Visit his blog here. ;*)

Some gems, and I quote:

The best performance of the picture comes from Karen Black, but this may be because pretty much everyone else in the film is awful, and she shines in comparison, kind of like watching amateur porn on the internet and fixating on the one girl who’s an amateur by choice, not by virtue of bad skin and a thyroid condition.

Written by Roald Dahl, the novel is one of a series of children’s stories that seem appropriate for kids at first but clearly exhibits the kind of violent creepiness most often seen inChristopher Walken films and John Wayne Gacy’s paintings of clowns .

Actually, he’s not even that popular, it’s just that he’s infiltrated into the ranks of cult directors worshipped by snotty video store clerks hoping their nerdy taste will somehow elevate them to Quentin Tarantino status in the eyes of the attractive waitresses from the all-night coffee shop next door.

...sort of like a Tarantino movie but without the occasional amoral bloodbath to liven things up

Aw! Sweet bitterness. I´m his fan.

And I stop to complain...

Stayed up too late. Too much alcohol in my system. I open my eyes. I´m alone. Grab something to eat. Grab something to read. I feel retro. I will have the first encyclopedia in the second row, thank you. They´re all red and shiny. I think nobody ever has even opened this one. "Language and..." Oh. Interesting. Semiotic.

(double? that´s so... 70´s)

But they caught me... I keep on reading.

Meh. I like neologisms.

I can´t stand, though, some words people use daily this days. Some people. Most. "chilo", for example. What is up with that word? They use it for everything.

Then, some others that are more inherent to the social environment, I guess. Like "pistear", or "chingo", or "fregazo", or "cochis" -es que yo elegiría automáticamente la palabra cerdo-.

Does that make me a liguistic snob?

And.

I dont know what to think of the people that always answer with the same strings of words: "Ya ves". "A poco si". "Pues que bien, no?". ETC (you know what I mean)

I mean. (in case you dont know hehe) Are those SUSTITUTES of ideas? Like, I dont really know what to say or the fuck I dont understand a single word of what she is saying so they just reply with those same standard safety nets for their ignorance?

Or they just think is not worth it to say more than three words?

On the other hand, there is the people that goes on and on talking nonsense. Who am I to judge anybody right?

BTW. Hendrix rules.

Viaje al Centro de la Tierra

Oh. And this (First measurements of Earth's core radioactivity) out just the day I started reading the novel of J.V.

Believe it or not, I haven´t read that one. I know. I know. You´re supposed to read this one when you´re 12 or something. But my readings have been rather chaotic. Nietzche, Goethe, Novalis, Cervantes at 8. Verne (second one), Feynman, Jenilek, Hesse (I lost the count one) at 29.

What? I´m in chapter 19. As a matter of fact, the only book I have read from J.V is Around the World in 80 days. Actually one of my favorites. Ever. Makes me smile just to remember some lines.

Yeah I´m the uncoolest person you´ll ever meet.

Look, we are cool!

Ok, so the new Windows Vista (eeew, just to write that makes me vomit) beta is out now.

They said august 3, but releasing it today a few days (three) before makes them look cooler, I guess. Look, we have it ready before we said!!!

Ahem. Not delayed for three years, right???? people is stupid, right? *cough*

Of course, it has nothing to do with the investors meeting tomorrow, right?

Plus, no more mr. nice windows updates -aka patches for our crappy software- for you people, not without us peeking into your machine at least, oh well, only the security ones, that´s right, we are that generous....

Ugh.

VR of the new Mac Mini, with Apple accesories.

Would people buy these, or rather wait til the switch?

Webcams for the Congressman

Ok. So they are installing cameras. Webcameras? To see what´re they doing (they, the damned asholes who seat there for a couple of hours -you know, they need their nap-, go to the best restaurants and drive suburbans with our money).

I say, they should better set up this equipment in the monkey cages at the local zoo.

They do basically the same anyway. At least we can have a little respect for the monkeys.

WHAT?!

The world fastest...

Japan wants to build the world fastest supercomputer...

"Japan wants to develop a supercomputer that can operate at 10 petaflops, or 10 quadrillion calculations per second, which is 73 times faster than the Blue Gene"

The article here.

To do what? Simulating the formation of galaxy and the interactions between a medicine and the human body. They say.

Percepción

No, I didn´t knew. How was I supposed to know? I dont live in the real word, you know? Things like this, I´m not aware off...

Ask to me about the Hesse novel I´m reading... Or, what is the last thing I´m trying to understand about the man -in a philosophical sense, of course-. Tell you what, you can even ask me about the last gadgets, or the trends in technology. I even care more about the leaves the wind is playing with... Or sexuality, you can ask me about that. I´m open to all subjects known to men!

But the real world, as in, you know, well, like this one thing?

Forget it.

Oh yes, I´m making a documentary on it. What?!

Random (Waiting in my desk)

Hmmmm. Yummy.

¿Estoy desvariando?

Last night, I saw "El tambor de hojalata" again. What a master piece. I love it. I feel so much like Agnes eating the fish...

Biotech (uh oh)

Why in the world did I selected biotechnology as the subject of my next article, only God knows, but the fact is I did, and now I´m hooked up with it. It is, indeed, fascinating. As I kept reading I was full of mental Oh´s and Ah´s. Even some Oh Wow´s. So... Better share the love, right?

First, I came across this article on a new Institute for Genomic Medicine open in Texas.

Lexicon is a pioneer in gene trapping technology and will use $35 million of the grant to make two copies of its knockout mouse embryonic stem cell library that will contain 350,000 cell lines. A knockout mouse is a mouse with a gene that is "turned off" so scientists can find out the function of each gene.

Yeah.

Then, the article "More time needed for biotechnology debate"...

Pre-implantation diagnosis should not be allowed. Pre-natal testing should be allowed if there is a possibility of the parents passing on a genetic disease to their children. Polar-body biopsy should be allowed only in the case of a serious illness. Human cloning should be prohibited on all counts, even for therapeutic purposes.

Oh...

And then the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, with its Biotech 101 Guide and the reference to the Biotechnology Industry Organization at Bio.org. (Nice set of milestones 2005 here, btw)

The original intention of the article is a question. Are we culturally ready?

Weell. Are we?

Best post... EVER!

Telepatía

Hm. I was truly sad last night. So sad, that the rescue gang came to my aid and virtually dragged me out of the house into a club (what an eww club btw).

I had have no food in the whole day, and there I was, sitting in a bed (yes, a bed) watching stupid people performing "their moves" and trying to get something not too bad for my poor organism at the bar.

Well I finally survived the night, but the post is not about it, the post is about... The lecture! Yeah. There was this girl in the car with us, boy she was nasty, a friend of the girlfriend of my youngest brother, and she kept talking and talking about her new cellphone and that it had "blutut", so I say, if you can tell me what Bluetooth is, I´ll buy you a beer.

So she starts her lecture... "It is like to connect, to make phones work like... Like telepaty, you know???"

Ohhhh The enlightment!!!!!! I almost cry of laughing.

what?!

Nonsense? Yes, please.

The (long) trailer of Katamari Damaci. (We love Katamari).

Agh.

Eh? Había gente aquí? Ugh. Aparentemente, sí. Por ahí. Ah.

Me sigue.

Fuck off.

biocomputation (or... life from scratch)

Normally, new life is created via reproduction, with each generation passing its genes on to the next. But Dr. Venter aims to bypass that process by manufacturing a complete set of genes, or genome, of a single-cell bacterium in his laboratory.
The guys of Edge on biocomputation. Interesting, as always.

Hot coffee! (mod)

Soooo... Now you can get a mod to have the grand theft auto characters have sex. (Story here)

And they may change the rating now...

wtf?

We´re talking of a game in wich you can kill people in the streets just like that. Brrrrrraummm. Dead. Oh and you can came back and finish them up again. I have seen my little cousin do that to women. And laugh. Well... I dont know what to say.

It reminds me of Team America. The funny puppets having sex, so offensive, nevermind the real violence. That is not offensive, that is funny, huh.

I wonder what is their rate for the last suicide attack in Israel.

Mature, for 17 and up?

Strike. (whatever)

Qrio. Sports. Anything to keep attention of what is really important, uh. Or is it? I have a big purple bruise for trying to hit a ball. A soft ball. It came in an unexpected direction. I was so ready to hit it. Like, 1 mt away from the place where it actually hitted me. Was I wrong placed? Was the ball a mistake? Was I supposed to know it would have such a twisted change of direction even tought all the others were the same? I don´t know. It was fun, thought.

I like bruises anyway.
